UI/UX Software Engineer

We are recruiting for a key position within an award-winning VC backed well-funded Bristol based technology start-up.  The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for the existing and future development of iCOMAT’s unique composite deposition technology.  They will play a key role in the success of an innovative carbon fibre process that will have significant impact in pushing forward both the performance and green credentials of many industries such as automotive, aerospace and renewable energy. 

iCOMAT aim to provide our customers with an end-to-end solution to enable them to carry out advanced manufacturing of carbon fibre parts. iCOMAT is developing hardware and software to enable the commercialisation of its Rapid Tape Shearing (RTS) fibre steering technology to provide fast, reliable, and repeatable 2D and 3D tape laying capability. 

We are looking for someone from a User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) software engineering background that is an expert in designing and programming front end software for industrial equipment.   An ability to talk with other engineers around electrical, mechanical and pneumatic characteristics will also be required to fully implement practical and reliable software controls.  Experience with seamlessly integrating existing software packages together, data capture and reporting along with fail safe methodologies for critical controls will be part of the role. 

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Specify, design, develop, integrate, and test the front end software systems for 2D and 3D RTS technologies 

  • Work individually and with subcontractors to integrate existing software package to achieve a seamless process flow for RTS technology 

  • Identify new and novel ideas where iCOMAT could add functionality and revenue through its software capability 

  • Produce high level UI/UX coding of the head and robot control  

  • Produce Health & Safety Risk Assessments related to software automation 

Qualifications, Experience and skills 

  • 10+ years Degree Qualified with an in depth understanding UI and UX programming languages and methodologies 

  • Expert with high-level programming languages for industrial equipment. 

  • Strong skills in software integration of different manufacturers software packages to provide seamless integration 

  • Ability to design front end software for reliability, useability, serviceability, and performance. 

  • Understanding of electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems design and integration will greatly aid software definition and is preferred but not essential 

  • Prototype and bench top test what works and what doesn’t quickly 

  • Adaptable and able to work under pressure to tight timescales 

Salary Level

Full time position, salary depending on experience 

Ways of working  

Work will be done at iCOMAT facilities in Bristol or Athens and remotely if possible. All applicants must be UK or Athens, Greece based

Mathematics & Controls Specialist

iCOMAT aim to provide our customers with an end-to-end solution to enable them to carry out advanced manufacturing of carbon fibre parts. iCOMAT is developing hardware and software to enable the commercialisation of its Rapid Tape Shearing (RTS) fibre steering technology to provide fast, reliable, and repeatable 2D and 3D tape laying capability. 

We are looking for someone from a mathematics and software controls engineering background that is very strong in high accuracy control loop development for temperature, pressure, speed, torque and many other variables.   A sound appreciation of how to model electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic characteristics will also be key to fully implement practical and reliable control strategies.

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Specify, design, develop, integrate, and test the control and instrumentation software systems for an industrial technology. 

  • Work individually and with subcontractors to integrate reliable and repeatable electrical and software controls for monitoring and control of the RTS technology 

  • Identify new and novel ideas where iCOMAT could add functionality through its advanced process control capability 

  • Produce and program the control loops related to the subsystems of the head (eg Kalman based PID controllers). 

  • Produce Health & Safety Risk Assessments related to the control systems

Qualifications, Experience, and skills 

  • PhD or 3+ years Degree Qualified with an in depth understanding of Control loops such as PID for process control of automated equipment 

  • Talented in mathematics and modelling relationships between systems 

  • Experience with a range of programming languages such as MATLAB, Python and Structured Text (Beckhoff) 

  • Knowledge of industrial process control methodologies and their implementation would be advantageous 

  • Understanding of pneumatic and mechanical systems modelling will greatly aid controls definition and is preferred 

  • Prototype and bench top test what works and what does not quickly 

  • Adaptable and able to work under pressure to tight timescales

We are recruiting for an important position within an award winning, VC backed, Bristol based technology start-up. The successful candidate will write and control all aspects of the funding bids for an innovative carbon fibre process that will have significant impact in pushing forward both the performance and green credentials of many industries such as automotive, aerospace and renewable energy.

 

iCOMAT aims to provide our customers with an end to end solution to enable them to carry out advanced manufacturing of carbon fibre parts. iCOMAT is developing hardware and software to enable the commercialisation of its Rapid Tape Shearing (RTS) fibre steering patented technology to provide fast, reliable, and repeatable 2D and 3D tape laying capability.

 

We are looking for a detail focused all-rounder who can structure funding bids in a way that maximises the opportunity for success.  Someone with the ability to write effectively, plan and cost accurately and can pull in all the information required from the team.  Someone with strong communication skills and a successful track record of bidding for high value high tech grants in the automotive and aerospace sectors.  An individual who will fully own the entire bidding process from identification of grant opportunities to receipt of the offer letter.  If this is you then we would like to hear from you.  

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Write and prepare grant proposals and tender bids for submission to UK and EU funding instruments

  • Project manage the bidding process from first proposal to offer letter acceptance

  • Contribute to the project planning and costing of all funding bids

  • Work closely with the entire iCOMAT team to gather the required inputs for the bid

  • Interact with project partners and build lasting relationships through excellent communication

  • Keep constantly up to date with funding opportunities, both UK and international to help define the company's funding bidding roadmap

  • Identify new and novel areas when iCOMAT could add value either through its hardware or software

  • Provide technical writing support to live projects (e.g. interim and final reports, content for review meetings)

Qualifications, Experience and skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering / technical field

  • Excellent technical writing skills

  • Track record of successful funding/bidding in engineering sector in UK and Europe (automotive / aerospace desirable)

  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills

  • Adaptable and able to work under pressure to tight timescales
